Ancient models of thought -- Wim van Binsbergen |
Ancient models of thought from Africa, the Ancient Near East, and prehistory, examined by an Africanist anthropologist turned intercultural philosopher. Topics include the comparative historical analysis of geomantic divination and mankala board-games; the Black Athena discussion on the historical interactions between the Ancient Near East and the Aegean region; the application of the Black Athena thesis to sub-Saharan Africa (in a forthcoming book entitled Global Bee Flight); a theoretical model of magic in Ancient Mesopotamia; an archaeoastronomical analysis of cupmarks as star maps and as a possible origin of mankala board-games; and sangoma divination and therapy from Southern Africa, into which the Wim van Binsbergen -- specialist on African traditional religion -- was initiated in 1990 and which triggered his exploration of extensive cultural continuities in space and time. |
