to the first ever Nkoya website to be available on the Internet. With this website the initiator/webmaster, Tatashikanda Kahare (Professor Wim van Binsbergen) seeks to further the following goals:

to help represent the Nkoya identity from western central Zambia (Africa), centring on Kaoma (formerly Mankoya) district
to help circulate important news and other information concerning Nkoya-related activities, including the Annual Kazanga Ceremony in Kaoma district
to further the orderly discussion of historical, linguistic, community and political matters among the Nkoya people and their neighbours and fellow-nationals in Zambia, especially through a discussion forum
to make available important Nkoya texts, especially the Likota lya Bankoya, both in their original Nkoya version and in English translation
to make available most of the books, articles and other texts on Nkoya culture and history which Tatashikanda has written and published ever since he started research among the Nkoya people in 1972
to offer extensive bibliographical resources on publications and unpublished texts relating the Nkoya people, language, history and culture
to offer multimedia contributions to the preservation and presentation of Nkoya culture and history
in future, also Nkoya-related texts by other authors may be made available in this website
currently this website is still in English only with occasional Nkoya texts, but we aspire to make it properly bilingual Nkoya / English in the near future

PLEASE NOTE: In this website we are touching on important and politically sensitive aspects of life in Zambia today and in the past. No one person can have the entire truth, especially not if that person is a relative outsider like Tatashikanda. Therefore, if you feel that certain points of view, or certain facts, are misrepresented or underrepresented here, feel free to contribute to our Forum so as to restore the balance. The orderly public consultation on important community and political matters through informal discussion (kuambola) or formal judicial procedure (nkuta) has been among the time-honoured customs among the Nkoya people; it will also serve us in the future. Meanwhile we apologise to any person or group who feels wrongly represented in this website. If you feel that the matter is too sensitive to discuss in a public forum, do not hesitate to send us a civil e-mail message and we will do our best to correct the mistakes and present a more balanced view in future.
